In 2003, I was traveling in Honolulu Hawaii. One of the hostels that I had reserved refused my reservation after I showed up. The reason was no elevators in the building. I explained that I could use the staircases and brought up the American disability act. I was told that ADA was for the “mainland”. in 2006, I returned to Honolulu and again was refused for my reservation from another hostel. That time I was told that if I don’t leave soon, The clerk is going to call the police. since then I have not travel in Hawaii. I thought Hawaii is part of the 50 states, perhaps I am wrong because I kept her the term ” mainland”.
